HI Guys!

I have just recently launched my new online songwriting course SPIRIT SONGS! It’s unbelievable how many talented people are out there.

I’ve been doing Skype sessions with so many people in the world. They all are amazing.

I’m seeing great results and even better than that, i’m seeing becoming more empowered within themselves. That’s really the main thing we focus on, working on your own boundaries and limitations that you put on yourselves. Hey, Everyone does it.

My vision for Spirit Songs is to create a community of artists that come together and create for the love of art.

The purpose for Spirit Songs is to help unlock the greater creative potential in everyone.

You don’t have to be an artist to create art, we all have potential in doing so. Sometimes it just takes someone else to unlock it..

If you would like to Join the community then you can sign up here at wescarr.com.au/spiritsongs

THE LAUNCHING OF SPIRIT SOUNDS IN THE COMING WEEKS!

For those of you who might not feel a calling to create art but just love to be inspired, moved, or watch art being created from the audience.. I am in the process of setting up SPIRIT SOUNDS

Spirit sounds will be the Big Brother to “Spirit Songs.” It will be the umbrella to everything i create. I will talk about how my own  spirituality  shaped the course of my life and about my own inner deepest  thoughts, share some demons and i’ll share what has inspired me also.

I’ll talk about meditation and my experiences, conscious living, conscious eating, Fatherhood, India, and generally touring and travelling around the world.

I will post my own meditation music that i will create purely for the spirit sounds community.

It will all be presented in a video of some sort.

There is a brand new Facebook page – Wes Carr’s Spirit Sounds.

This will be a page that i’ll upload new inspirations and exciting material. Music, art, spiritual stuff… you name it.. it will be good content and something for everyone.

Eventually i’d like to tour Spirit Sounds and bring a whole community of like minded souls together.

For now,

I’ll plant a tiny seed and watch it grow..

WES

Thanks boys for having me as a guest performer in Sydney.

I was honoured to be asked to sing with Jimmy and the boys at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, before the place will be knocked down in the next few months.

I joined them for ‘Lost’ a song i wrote with song writing mentor and good mate, Don Walker.

I’ve been told the song has done very well for them.

One of the highest honours to share a bit of history with these legends.

COLD CHISEL WILL BE RELEASING A SONG I WROTE,
AND IT’S OUT TOMORROW!!

When i was a kid, growing up on the Northern streets of Adelaide, (Elizabeth, Salisbury, Gawler, One Tree Hill,) you had to know who Cold Chisel were. It was sacrilege if you didn’t, every second song on the radio was a Chisel song. You weren’t alive if you didn’t know who they were.

It’s amazing to think that cut to 20 years in the future, my song would be released as a Cold Chisel song.

This has to be one of, if not, my greatest career highlight so far. ‘Lost’ was co-written with  long time collaborator, good mate, and songwriting mentor, Don Walker. Don wrote most of the Chisel classics such as “Khe Sahn,” and my favourite, “Flame Trees.”
Don and i started writing together many years ago, when i was about 15 and we haven’t stopped since, we’ve written quite a few now and there’s a few great tunes lying around..

‘Lost’ is very close to my heart, having played it many times at my own shows around this great land. I remember when i sat down in a stairwell at the back of a stage in the middle of Australia somewhere, just about to go on, and the chorus just came flooding out. And for me, at that time, i was pretty Lost in life, i’ve always felt like i never really truly have found my place in life. Always searching for something greater.. And yes, we all ‘get a little Lost sometimes, but that’s alright.’

‘Lost’ is a song which yields great power and i’ve seen it bring a tear to many a grown mans eye and silence a room all over the country, in every venue i’ve been to.

Chisel gives it a new dimension and i can’t wait for it to become one of their many iconic anthems in years to come.

George said in one of his final interviews  see here
-” i don’t see the point in writing most songs, i could write hundreds of songs, i could churn them out, if i’m going to say something i’d like it to have some importance, some value.”
I think George Harrison’s work is more important now, than ever. He was before his time. And now, In a world dominated by information overload, with access to just about anything at your fingertips these days, i generally think most people are starved of the important information. To become conscious, it takes work. To become wise is only through experience but if you can light the way for someone else whilst working at it yourself, that’s when you’re own desires start to ripple out into society, and you start changing the world. When you raise your own consciousness you intern raise the whole of societies consciousness.
I see people always running around searching for the quick way to get rich or the secret to achieve happiness  and how to achieve peace. I was the same and i still have those desires in me, everybody does. How can you not have those desires, and have that outlook on life? When we are constantly surrounded by a society that tells us that you need to acquire the top marks, the gold medal, the big job, more money, fame, notoriety etc.. in order to be accepted in modern times. George, through his music and great presence in interviews taught me that all of these “achievements” are hidden within us already. We just have to search for it. And to realise that the duality of life is essential. Where there is good, there is bad, night and day, life, death. We only know happiness, peace and what it’s like to be rich when we have experienced it’s opposite, out of the darkness comes the light.
As George says in his song “Beware of Darkness” “Take care, Beware of soft shoe shufflers, dancing down the side walks, as each unconscious sufferer, wanders aimlessly.”
I don’t want to be that unconscious sufferer no longer.
In this day and age, we forget to look around ourselves and love the people right in front of us, trading them in for an alternative life out there in cyber space or the pursuit of wealth, and all the egos needs. “Life is what happens to you, while you’re busy making other plans” – John Lennon.
George reminded me personally, that I need to become more present and search within myself. To unlock my own true desires and release my own traumas for a more peaceful world.  My prayer for this show is that it be just another key to help someone unlock something greater within themselves.
Whatever country you’re from, religion you are, colour you are or sexual preference you have, we are all human. It’s time to become conscious of each other and our planet again. I think George Harrison reminded us all of  the important things in life through his words and music, and we need to start listening again, opening up our hearts a little more and stop to look at the simple wonders in life.
Maharishi said, ‘For a forest to be green, each tree must be green.’ So the same for the world to have peace, each individual must have peace. And you don’t get it through society’s normal channels. And that’s why each individual must tend to himself and get his own peace. And that way the whole society will have peace.” – George Harrison.

I frequently get asked by young kids, wanting to know how to become a ‘rock star.’
The last few days I’ve been asked everyday, as being on the road I encounter many people from all walks of life. Especially when i am invited into peoples homes and play my very personal and much loved House Concerts.  Most kids i meet want to try out for the next TV show and they seem to want to be a celebrity and the idea a music career will make life better .. That’s cool!! But there is many sides to that great story-
Some Kids always seem to  be looking for something external (once they get to a certain age) to fulfil them and not realising that creating from what they already have in built within themselves, is where they’ll find their treasure.
My passion to create has always come from the wanting to expand further in life. To challenge the normal expectations and get people thinking about who we are and what makes us tick. I’m still learning about myself and aren’t we all.
Music has unlimited potential just like each and every one of us. It comes from a pure expression.
I’ve seen audiences from all walks of life, no matter religion or colour or political view, become ONE with one simple chorus of song.
Within music, I like to channel my angst.  I learn from the great Mellon Collie feeling that comes from contrasting emotions, the power of real life and it’s challenging, expansive,  sometimes cryptic and intricate ways of teaching us all about each other and ourselves.
But Most importantly having great  love for what I do.
If it doesn’t feel right, I stop doing it.
Gandhi said, ‘I want freedom for the full expression of my personality.’
When I was a kid I never felt anything like the warm embrace of music.
It made me aware that we are all connected to a higher impulse, and music  connects us all.
When we speak in conversation, sometimes we don’t get our feelings across, but through music we can say everything, whether it’s our own music or the use of somebody else’s.
I write from my own experiences and perspectives.
Being in the flow of your craft like a surfer on his board riding a wave, you just unite with a much greater presence than what you see in your physical surroundings.
Whatever you do, whether you work for yourself or you work for someone else.
You are your own industry, you are your own business. You are Your own marketer.
You have all the tools to create something from within yourself. To inspire others and reach greater possibilities.
If you’re looking externally for something to fulfil your life, you will never find it. I’ve always fallen prey to external temptations and have learnt the hard way many times over.  Never beat yourself up, as its all a blessing.
Try to  Look within yourself, and create from that perspective. Meditation is the best way to do this.
Whatever your actions, use the power and great knowledge from within to do it.
Find your own unique voice and when you find that voice, that’s  true power. And that is more powerful than anything you will ever experience. Through this, you will Learn to shape and create your own destiny without straining or harming anyone.
Seeking approval will only diminish your creation, but listening to external opinions can expand your creation.
So take care when exposing your passions and creations to others. When you are on to something you know is your purpose, people will want to know how, when, where, and why?
 Try not to boast.
Try not to preach.
You won’t want to anyway if it’s your true path you are living.
If you are only after the reward or the notoriety etc. You will never find your passion for It is not a passion from the heart, and it will not fulfil you.
You will always be looking for something else.  It may even have the opposite effect. We are here to be free, so whatever you do, be free doing it.

For me it was music from an early age….
When i wrote my first song, or picked up an instrument for the first time, or walked on a stage etc. I was completely in love with my art. My artistry is what saved me from tensions at home, difficulty at school and teenage challenges.
It wasn’t just music though, it was a certain attitude I felt when playing music, like I was invincible and empowered to tell the world my stories.
I was first introduced to people within the music industry when I was 14 years old. I started playing shows at that time and began my long journey.
Sadly, I believe, for now, The music industry has lost its way.
It’s perpetually seeking the next big thing  instead of  acting with purity and heart that built what the industry is today. Now It’s purely run on economics and celebrity. There is so much great music to be heard these days, but unfortunately crowded out by gossip magazines and media publications that dominate the consciousness of society.
Once you unconsciously give your power away to any external force you have lost that creative spark of genius, that uniqueness, that purity,  that divine knowing that once gave you those goosebumps playing your own music and expressing your own experiences as a kid. You don’t know any different as a kid, your sweet naivety is what gives you wings to expand and create from your own true awareness, without knowing limitations that you tend to put on yourself later in life.
The music industry has forgotten fundamental principles of artistry and creation. It once depended on the artists to create and keep challenging the ‘normal.’ To break free from their daily lives, to remind us all, we are free, to create a shift for a global consciousness and remind us all that we are all connected by a higher awareness.  That we belong to something. Music connects us all, it’s the universal language. I guess that’s why songs created from pure heart are still being celebrated now and we see countless nostalgia bands celebrating these songs because some of today’s music has sadly become disposable in a anxious, fickle industry and marketplace.
Ancient tribes and some tribes today have used music to heal the sick and when the early blues and rock and roll came along it started  a revolution that set many cultures free..
We tend to forget music is essentially, another form of spiritual practice.
There’s more notoriety and celebrity fuelled by gossip magazines and tabloid media, than there is purity and heart.
Without heart there is nothing, and mostly there isn’t much heart in the corporate music industry that entirely controls what is produced and released for the masses to digest. There is an elitist, angry, fickle low vibration   which spawns from insecurity and ego, governed by illusionary thinking. Once we get our heads out of the sand, stop complaining, stop the divide and conquer approach to running business, all art will breathe again. We must know the art of dying to know the art of living. Learn to die when alive and you will be reborn.
I open my heart to the people who are afraid to change or who try to govern in fear. All we can do is send them love.
Henry David Thoreau “those who govern least govern best.”
I’ve seen so many artists and business people trapped by their own egos , they can’t understand why they aren’t selling more and winning more awards. If you say to the universe ‘gimme more’ the universe is only going to respond, ‘gimme more.’
What do you stand for  other  than your own selfish desires?
Music is a service to fill the world with higher vibrations of awareness and love, that’s when communication through music will work again. It’s not ours to own we are a vessel that this sound vibration travels through.
The “mainstream” are starting to ‘wake up’ and become conscious, there’s a huge shift in society. Can you see it, more importantly, Can you feel it?
I’ve sat in boardrooms where the company i was affiliated with have spoken about the mainstream people on a whole as being stupid. That they will buy into anything if you tell them and saturate the market, they will have no choice but to buy..
These big companies have no respect for their consumers.
This is why there’s a major shift in society and we only have the big companies to thank for creating a shift of awareness  and  reminding the ‘mainstream people’ that they aren’t stupid and gullible. I have met thousands of people across the globe and they all have one thing in common, and that is everybody wants to be loved. If you love people and touch their soul whatever you do, it will be reciprocated.
YOU ARE THE INDUSTRY!
Whatever you choose to do.  Established companies will have you believe that they will create you. You are already who you are! You are the divine power that uses your unique essence to create and inspire others..
No need to create something just to be seen or follow the pack of what already is..
Create something because your heart yearns for it. Remember, If you look for anything external you will never find the freedom you yearn for. Creative freedom is always within you. Listen to Your intuition, it’s already telling you. It’s there, just waiting behind the millions of egos crowding your mind..
Quiet your mind, you will see..
It’s fun when you first start searching within yourself for YOUR truth. You may discover you never wanted to be a lawyer or what you think you are. It was just what you thought everybody else wanted you to be.. Sometimes it can be confronting. Like that funny little elf man said in the movie the never-ending story, ‘ even the bravest of warriors can run scared when confronted by their true self.’
A great way to do this is to meditate.  If mediation doesn’t float your boat, talk it out with a friend, if that’s not what you do, write  a song about it, (everybody can write a song, it’s simple – musicians will have you believe otherwise.. But it’s a piece of piss) take a long drive, walk. Etc.. Or just take some time off to re-evaluate your own desires.
You will soon feel that First comes  your pure intention like magic, out of nowhere. You get a rush of inspiration. Then Inspiration flows once you leave your conditioning mind behind. This can take a while to shake off.
Your conditioning mind is what you have convinced yourself to believe by following what other people have thought best to tell you what you should do, and not following your own heart’s desires. That’s a good thing!
You will end up thanking those people that lead you astray because  In this moment of clarity you can find  what you are meant to be doing.
Be grateful for the people that lead you astray..
Once you find your hearts true desire,
It’s like A divine messenger that comes to deliver you a sacred secret.
It can completely pull the rug from underneath you. Give yourself space to Be kind to yourself.
And it’s all hidden within yourself.
It’s A true knowingness simmering Deep below the surface of your ‘monkey mind’ (the ego.)
just listen within the stillness.
Second comes creation that’s when you materialise your intentions, don’t force your thought or your intention, just let it flow through you. Let it come in divine time.
That’s how all my songs write themselves.. I’m just the vessel.
Then  with your unique creation, comes true power. The kind of power that doesn’t strain or force. It’s  total power that can hypnotise. Its magnetic. Total freedom. It’s A healing power that cuts through the barrier of language. Reminding us all that we are all ONE.
You will start understanding  how to  work with energy and get to feel your way through the psyche of people, no matter the person. I love to know that when I want to, I can effect an audience, get them out of their seats and see them let go of the inhibitions that cloud their egos and just be at one with the music and me.
That’s real show business and entertainment!!
When finding your hearts true desire, Your consciousness will shift in wanting good for humanity, and not seeing people as competition.
Now You are living your true purpose Just by listening to your feeling, it’s your deeper awareness.
That’s when  you can channel your craft and speak to peoples hearts through your heart song, whatever your art form. Be it, painting, playing footy or fixing a toilet.. It can be anything. Everything is art. Do it with your own unique flair.
Stay with your true intention, keep letting it make you feel good with that mad rush of adrenaline, and feel those goosebumps.  There’s no need to listen to external noise, just listen to inner working of your desires, with the ear of your heart.
That is part of creating your OWN INDUSTRY.
Love,
WES x

Most of my music is a nostalgic look back at my life, past relationships and old desires left by the wayside. They are journal entries frozen in time. You are not the same person you were 5 years ago, 2 months ago and even yesterday. Some people hold other people accountable for their past. They want you to stay the same so they feel secure.  We are all forever changing, wandering beings of light, we are all looking for our own path and piece of earth we feel most comfortable in. Nostalgia plays a big role in my writing and when i look within myself i realise everything i desire is already inside me. That to scale the earth looking for the rest of me, through environments or mind altering substances, the quest for fame, adulation etc. was not what i need to do and is a superficial path that doesn’t allow you to flow freely. Seeking favour is degrading and will lead you astray.

Creating Music that comes from what seems like out of nowhere makes me realise that peace, success, happiness, music, rhythm, abundance, anything and everything you need isn’t something you stumble on, it’s not something you find, it’s not material and you don’t learn it throughout your journey, it’s already within you. As our bodies get old, our soul do not, our soul constantly moves like the tide, our souls desires or purpose are considered our “dreams” and are always evolving with us, as we change throughout our lives, we never fade away we just transition into a new state of consciousness. We flicker in and out of existence at the speed of light, (300,000 kms per second).  Learn how to die here on earth first, let go, be free, give away your possessions that clutter your space. Maybe even give a valued possession away if you’re ready for that. Our greatness is in the small things. Cherish you and you will cherish me. What if all our hearts beat in time, and everything that exists makes up the perfect rhythm that beats the perfect beat and allows life to keep flowing? All life is effortless and this is how we are meant to exist just like the force of energy that utilises the vein to help carry the blood to the perfect part of your body to keep you healthy and vibrant, and when we experience dis-ease from an imbalance of contrast, the power of healing is within you eternally, we are all apart of the same intelligence that exists within us and without us.

I wrote this above like automatic writing, i know this is my spirit talking to me but my human aspect now has to but in as it constantly does and the ego loves that. I want to tell you that I struggle with this notion everyday, ego vs true self, But to struggle with it goes against the whole principal. To have the awareness but still easily forget it is quite common and it’s one thing to be preaching it and meditating on it, it’s another putting it all into practise and that takes work and constant discipline.  I try so hard to be a good human but it’s not about trying it’s about letting it flow naturally… and every now and then challenges arrive where i find myself getting caught up in the day to day struggles of the lower vibrational issues that can come my way without anticipating them, and this happens everyday to everyone. It’s unfortunate but i guess that is what balances us and makes our human element so interesting. We make meaning out of everything and It’s hard to remember that we are all eternal having an experience when you see something horrific in the newspaper or on television (this is why i don’t read the news or watch tele).

Music for me brings the best part of the past back to life, as if it were time travel and it is. Memories are photons of light in the brain. They are apart of your soul. By having a memory, you summon light. You can not physically hold it in your hand but you know it’s there and it’s real to you, by the images that flash in your mind. I use this memory to conjure the feeling and then the audience will hopefully have the same if not similar experience that i was having in translating the song whilst calling on the experience of the past and bringing the song out of the un-manifest in the first place, obviously the past does not exist but the feeling will always remain and be available to access and the more and more you conjure this emotion for others, the more and more it expands within the collective consciousness. That is why we as artists/musicians have to create high vibrational art to fill the world with inspiration, freedom, passion etc.. to combat the lower vibrational turbulence of the world.

Last nights house concert was set in a beautiful setting in Brisbane. It was an old church converted into a beautiful renovated house. They still kept the integrity of the interior leaving the stage and the original floorboards. It was probably the most unique house concert i’ve done given the setting.

House concerts give me the chance to meet like-minded people, meet my audience and have a new found relationship with fans of my music. When i turn up to the houses it’s always unique and everybody is so friendly and welcoming. Thank you Brisbane. Tonight i play the Dowse Bar to my first SOLD OUT show as Buffalo Tales. I’m really looking forward to it!! – I’m planning to play longer than i should given my excitement..
Respect,

So excited to announce my residency coming up in April at the Art Gallery of NSW every Wednesday night. It will be an intimate solo acoustic show full of songs old and new plus a few covers that have influenced my life and music over the years. Playing at the Art Gallery is such a privilege and i’m so humbled and honoured to be asked to play in such a truly beautiful and historic setting. I can’t wait to share my music with you all. Hope to see you down there in April on a Wednesday! Respect. Wes

Most people know i am a big advocate of transcendental meditation. I get a lot of questions about it, so here is a little about my experience with my daily practice.

TM has given me a new me i guess. I was given a mantra by Carol Maher in Sydney and with the practice of TM twice a day (30 mins in the morning, 30 minutes in the evening) i have noticed not only my creativity has increased but my ability to cope with stresses that consume my mind. In the past i’ve experienced depression, anxiety and paranoia and i’ve also discovered just recently i have a condition called Pyrolles Disorder, my body doesn’t produce much zinc and vitamin b6 which starves my brain of all the right “happy” chemicals it needs. TM has played a major role in my life over the last three and a half years by helping me combat depression and anxiety and to clear my mind when it’s full of constant chatter and that “mind fog” we sometimes get when we are tired, sad, angry etc… I also have learnt the flying sutras or the ’sidis’. This is an ancient practice that in my opinion can be even more powerful than the mantra  I have experienced instant manifestation, nirvana or bliss in the matter of minutes in some meditations and also a hightened sense of psychic awareness. TM continually surprises me and in my opinion it is the most powerful tool i acquired over the years to help me just focus and get clarity of mind. I highly recommend when you start the practice to get Maharishi’s book “Science and the art of living” it helped me understand what i was experienceing. David Lynch describes it as getting in an elevator and somebody cutting the elevators cord and you free fall down the shaft. It’s a little like that i guess.
in my opinion, I don’t really think meditation is JUST for relaxation. Deepak Chopra says that The ancient seers that pioneered the technique were not trying to relax, they were already relaxed. Meditation was performed to experience a heightened awareness. During TM you experience a restful alertness, we meditate not to tune out but to tune in, not to get away from everything but to experience everything. It’s an inner wakefulness an inner knowingness. It leaves you feeling fresh, alert and when i started i became very sensitive to all that was around me. It makes you look at life much deeper. There is no interference by the experiences of the past when experiencing pure consciousness. There are vast voids within our bodies, filled with intelligence. The challenge is to bring this intelligence to our everyday awareness. We, as mind body and spirit are more like water, unlimited, ever moving and changing. Thoughts become things, we in the physical are like a wave in an ever bounding vast ocean connected to all, we are all one of the same thing. Our thoughts effect the world just as much as our physical actions if not greater.
I believe Meditation should be introduced in schools everywhere. We should also educate our kids on real life events and give them the appropriate tools to deal with the pressures and nuances of everyday life.

Love and Respect,

Wes
